Balancing Act
Oct. 3rd, 2018 03:31 pmIt's amazing what a lady can get used to given enough time. Well, time and direct orders from the overlord in charge of someone's soul, anyway. Not that Nekomata would refer to Stratos Caelus as such aloud. He's never given her any reason to be angry with him enough to do it and the discomfort and real pain such a callous comment would bring him is more than any satisfaction she could gain from saying it.
Other humans she'd laugh at causing that kind of pain.
Other humans didn't scar themselves for life to save hers though. It's enough to buy real respect from the demon. Enough that she's waiting in line amid a bunch of humans with her tails curled tightly around herself to make sure no one breaks through the illusion settled over her. At least she can't see herself in her human guise. It's one Stratos crafted but it only took looking at herself in the mirror a couple of times before she memorized the form and function of the illusion. Her own magic isn't a brand that exists on Tamriel so it's a bit easier to hide from detection. Not that she's worried about it in general. Stratos' illusions are much stronger than any other humans' she's sensed around the place.
The courier's station is as busy as always but no one looks sideways at her. As she does every time Neko hands over her paperwork before asking for Stratos Caelus's mail though this time she hands back a sealed letter of her own for delivery as well as the payment. It didn't take long to learn how to imitate her master's handwriting. The content of said letters though she's had to scrounge up from dozens of half finished letters Stratos has abandoned over the months until she could more or less craft what he wanted to say to one Nereus Caelus.
Most of the letter she copied right out of the discarded drafts, two full pages of updates and other human family shit she knows means the world to her master even if she gets bored even thinking about it. But the rest of it...Nekomata knows why Stratos has been avoiding this for so long. She had a front row seat as to why Nereus Caelus is a man Stratos has kept at arms length for the last year. Too many long nights spent coaxing the soldier back to sleep or charming him to hold off the worst of his nightmares for another night. She's glad that doesn't happen so much anymore. But if he puts it off for much longer he's sure to get more trouble which translates into more work for her.
So maybe perhaps at the bottom of the letter she included a line mentioning that Stratos' little brother was engaged. You know, family talk stuff Stratos was so clearly avoiding. Everything is fine back here in Skyrim and did you know Felix is engaged? Good news right? Anyway hope this finds you well, safe travels.

Why on Nirn her master found that so difficult to say she doesn't know, but now he doesn't have to worry about it. She's done his job for him. When he finds out she's certain it will mean a treat for her.
